Common Sense Defense was founded in 2013 in Northeast Ohio and provides emergency preparedness planning and training services for schools and child care centers. We assist leadership teams with the review, development, and execution of emergency operations plans tailored to the individual needs of each school or center. In addition, we provide training programs for staff and students on topics such as emergency planning, conflict management, conflict mediation, and diversity awareness.
Common Sense Defense is a Female Business Enterprise (FBE), Local Producer Enterprise (LPE), Economically Disadvantaged Women Owned Small Business (EDWOSB), and Small Business Enterprise (SBE). In addition, we have earned the Green Plus Certification for our commitment to sustainable business practices.

Molly Tyson
Molly Tyson is currently President and Lead Consultant for Common Sense Defense. She has two children and is dedicated to ensuring that organizations that are children-centered are prepared in the event of an emergency. Molly has worked in education for more than 15 years, developing emergency operations plans and creating and implementing a diverse array of training programs. Since the tragic events of Columbine and Sandy Hook, Molly has been working with school districts to create emergency operations plans and training programs that include a focus on conflict management and mediation, violent intruder defense strategies, and diversity awareness. Molly is an A.L.i.C.E. certified instructor, participated in the Ohio Attorney General's Active Shooter for Educators Training, and is OSHA 10-hour certified. She volunteers as Girl Scout Troop Leader for her daughter’s Cadette troop, is a board member for the local YMCA, and was a member of the American Red Cross Disaster Assistance Team and the Lorain County Community Emergency Response Team.
